Alleged RCMP Impersonator Arrested Kamloops

RCMP arrest leads to police impersonation investigation in Kamloops

February 6 2026 - KAMLOOPS - The possibility of someone impersonating a police officer on public roadways is inherently concerning, particularly when emergency lights and police-style equipment are involved. Kamloops RCMP say an arrest late last month has led to an ongoing investigation into alleged police impersonation.

Alleged RCMP Impersonator Arrested Kamloops

According to RCMP, officers with the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit conducted a traffic stop at approximately 11 p.m. on January 29. Police determined the driver was prohibited from driving and, during the investigation, located body armour displaying non-RCMP “Police” and “RCMP” lettering.

The vehicle involved was a white GMC truck equipped with red and blue lights and a siren.

“Impersonating police is a criminal offence whether it be by false representation, badge, article, uniform or equipment which can pose a significant risk to both public and police safety,” said Sgt. Jason Pole, in charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Reduction Unit.

Weapons, body armour and the vehicle were seized pending further investigation. RCMP say a man in his 40s was arrested and later released, with charge recommendations anticipated.

While not specific to this investigation, public safety guidance generally advises that if a driver is unsure whether the person attempting to stop them is a legitimate police officer, it is acceptable to slow down, signal compliance, and proceed to a well-lit or populated area.

Drivers may also call 9-1-1 to confirm the legitimacy of the stop while remaining in their vehicle.

RCMP remind the public that legitimate police officers will produce proper police identification if requested.

Anyone who may have had an encounter with a man driving a white GMC truck while wearing partial police attire is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), citing file number 2026-3010.
