Grass Fire Sparked By Burning Truck?

No official word if the two fires were connected but the Vernon Fire Department was responding to a motor vehicle fire that was believed to have sparked a grass fire.

The call came in shortly after 1 PM Monday.

Quick work by the Vernon Fire Department along with Coldstream Fire and crews from BC Wildfire Service had the fire contained after approximately 40 minutes.

Steep rough terrain barely slowed crews down as they doused the burning truck/camper and then surrounded the burning grass situated on the steep slope directly above the pickup. Fire crews staged on Highway 97 just beneath the remnants of the Clerke Road Fire that flared up several Fridays ago

Directly below the crews on Highway 97, on Kalamalka Lakeview Drive, the remains of the pickup and camper were being examined by the RCMP. Northbound traffic on 97 was down to one lane for the duration.

The fire happened just across Highway 97 from where the Clerke Road Fire erupted several weeks ago.

No official cause or word if there were any injuries
