Attention Skiers: Good news, winter enthusiasts! Local roads and ski hills in the North Okanagan region are blanketed with snow, signaling the arrival of the much-awaited winter season.

However, the question remains is it enough? Let's dive into the updates from key locations like SilverStar Mountain Ski Resort, Sovereign Lake, and Environment Canada.

SilverStar Mountain Ski Resort: For Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding Enthusiasts

If you're eager to hit the slopes at SilverStar, here's the scoop. The Cross Mountain "Early Season" XC Trail will close on December 5 in preparation for opening terrain for Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding. Currently, only Upper XC Trails are open, suitable for intermediate and advanced Nordic skiers. Early-season conditions prevail with a low snow base, so ski responsibly. The weather forecast promises more snow, with freezing levels rising temporarily before returning to below freezing temperatures by Wednesday night.

  • Saturday: High -4°C / Low -8°C, 3 to 8 cm of snow, breezy at times.

  • Sunday: High -4°C / Low -6°C, 2 to 5 cm of snow, breezy at times.

  • Monday: High -1°C / Low -4°C, 5 to 10 cm of snow.

  • Tuesday: High 2°C / Low -3°C, summit snow at times, risk of mixed precipitation.

  • Wednesday: High 0°C / Low -2°C, variable cloud.

Sovereign Lake: A Haven for Snowshoers

Snowshoers, head to Sovereign Lake for your winter adventures. The Western Canada Cup is happening, with limited terrain open for race training and days. Trails like Passmore, Lower Aberdeen, Abermore, and the stadium are groomed. Keep an eye out for more snow in the next few days to open additional trails. As of the latest snow report: 3 cm in the last 12 hours, 7 cm ski base, and a total annual snowfall of 31 cm.
