April 15 2026 - Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have arrested one individual believed to be connected to a recent string of property damage incidents targeting businesses in the Vernon area.
The arrest was announced Wednesday as police continue to investigate multiple reports of broken glass and other vandalism at local businesses over the past several weeks.
No charges have been laid at this time, and the suspect remains in custody awaiting a court appearance.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, one individual believed to be linked to the recent string of incidents has been arrested,” said Inspector Neil Kennedy, Operations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “The arrest follows steady investigative work by officers across a number of related files.”
Police noted the significant impact the incidents have had on affected business owners and staff, who face unexpected repair costs and disruption while working to serve the community.
“We know how frustrating this has been for local business owners,” Inspector Kennedy added. “They work hard to operate and support our community, and they shouldn’t have to deal with the added stress of repeated vandalism. We’re going to keep supporting them and continue to work hard at reducing this type of crime and its impact on our community.”
The RCMP release does not specify which locations are linked to the arrested individual.
An example of what some local business have endured, the Shops at Polson Place mall in the 2300 block of Highway 6 was hit twice earlier this month, on April 6, when rocks smashed three windows, and again on April 8 when additional damage, including a hole in a smaller window, was discovered in the same vulnerable back section near the railway tracks.
There's no information in the RCMP release that connect the Polson Place vandalism with the recent arrest.
RCMP are asking anyone with information about these incidents to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP Detachment at (250) 545-7171.
The investigation remains active.
