Trans Canada Highway tragedy claims 2 lives
Chase BC October 2 2026 - A two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 west of Chase has claimed the lives of a Kamloops mother and her 11-year-old son, Chase RCMP say.
Officers were called at about 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, to assist BC Emergency Health Services after a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Chase, near Stoney Flats Road and Chief Neskonlith Drive.
The crash involved a Mercedes SUV and a Honda Civic.
Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the two occupants of the Civic, a 47-year-old woman and her son, both from Kamloops, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
The RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended to help investigators.
Police say the investigation is still in its early stages and the circumstances that led to the crash have not been determined.
“The loss of life in any incident is tragic, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected during this incredibly difficult time,” Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson, said. “As this investigation is in its infancy, investigators are working to determine exactly what occurred, and we are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured relevant dash camera footage to come forward.”
Anyone who saw the crash, or who has dash-camera video from the area between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to contact Chase RCMP and refer to file 2026-2282.
