UPDATE: December 15 2025 - Avalanche advisory in effect along Trans-Canada Highway
Drivers are being warned to prepare for possible short-notice closures along the Trans-Canada Highway as avalanche conditions develop across a large section of the route.
DriveBC has issued a weather advisory for Highway 1 between Old Sicamous Road near Sicamous and the B.C.- Alberta border, covering nearly 292 kilometres.
The advisory includes the mountain corridors from Revelstoke eastward to the provincial boundary.
The advisory follows earlier closures between Revelstoke and the area near Golden, where Highway 1 was shut down to allow avalanche control work.
According to DriveBC, avalanche conditions are expected to develop from Sunday evening, December 14, through Tuesday morning, December 16.
During that time, travellers should expect possible short-notice closures for avalanche control and avalanche debris removal.
December 15 2025 - The Trans-Canada Highway remains closed in both directions between Revelstoke and the area just west of Golden due to avalanche control work.

According to DriveBC, Highway 1 is closed between Townley Street in Revelstoke and Anderson Road near Golden, a stretch of approximately 141 kilometres. The closure extends from about one kilometre west of Golden through to Revelstoke.
No detour is available. Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and delay travel plans if possible.

At this time, DriveBC estimates the highway could reopen late Monday night, with an estimated reopening time of 11:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
As always remember conditions can change quickly, and the closure may be extended depending on weather and avalanche risk.
The next update is expected later this evening.
