ERT Operation Shuts Down Highway 97 Through Vernon For An Hour

Traffic was blocked in both directions on Highway 97 in Vernon Thursday afternoon for about an hour as Vernon RCMP and an Emergency Response Team (ERT) safely made an arrest in a parking lot just off the busy thoroughfare.

The incident began around 2:45 p.m. Witnesses tell ExNews multiple RCMP vehicles converged in the parking lot of the Vernon Lodge.

Onlookers noted that the heavily armed RCMP tactical members appeared to be focusing their attention on a truck and trailer parked there.

The operation concluded in less than an hour without incident.

Meanwhile, less than five minutes up the highway at the intersection of BC-97 and 23rd Avenue another RCMP incident was unfolding. Two marked RCMP cruisers were securing half a block of 23rd Ave. It is unknown at this time if the two events are related.

We are awaiting an official report from RCMP.
