VERNON, BC - The long-anticipated return of Volunteer Vernon has arrived. An open house event is scheduled for October 10th at the NexusBC Community Resource Centre.

The event, running from 10 AM to 3 PM, will mark the beginning of a new chapter for the volunteer program, which had been on hiatus for six years due to a loss of funding.

With support from the United Way, NexusBC is bringing the program back to life.

Pam Myers, Executive Director of NexusBC, is eager to welcome both volunteers and local organizations to the event. "We are thrilled to celebrate the return of our community volunteer program," said Myers. "This program used to be a central part of our community, connecting volunteers with causes that made a real difference."

The open house is expected to draw a wide range of attendees, including local organizations in need of volunteers and community members looking to contribute their time.

Kelsey Oster, the newly appointed Volunteer Vernon Coordinator, will be on hand to provide information and answer questions. "Whether you’re looking to volunteer or in need of volunteers, this event is the perfect opportunity to get involved," said Oster. "We’ll have giveaways for both organizations and volunteers."

The return of Volunteer Vernon is highly anticipated by many local groups, from literacy programs and senior support services to veterans' organizations and rescue operations. In previous years, the program helped link volunteers to causes as varied as providing transportation for seniors and coaching individuals with disabilities.

Oster emphasized the mutual benefits of volunteering, noting that it not only supports the community but also offers personal growth opportunities for volunteers. "Volunteering builds confidence, enhances skills, and fosters social connections," she said.

NexusBC hopes that the program’s relaunch will reinvigorate community engagement in Vernon and the surrounding areas.
