Kal Road Closed After Large Tree Falls on Power Lines

July 20, 2025 — A large tree came down across Kalamalka Lake Drive Sunday afternoon, bringing down power lines and forcing a road closure east of McClounie Road for approximately one kilometre.
Emergency calls began coming in shortly after 1:30 p.m. Coldstream Fire Department responded and quickly determined that the fallen tree and power lines posed a serious risk to both vehicles and pedestrians.
Fire crews established roadblocks at either end of the affected area until Coldstream Public Works arrived to take over.
As of this writing, BC Hydro technicians had not yet arrived on scene.
There is no official word on what caused the tree to fall, though witnesses reported brief gusts of wind in the area around the time of the incident.
Visually, the tree, to be nearly twice the height of nearby power poles, appeared to be in poor condition.
