February 13 2026 - An early morning fire at a Vernon home near the intersection of 28th Street and 37th Avenue prompted a significant response Friday.

When crews arrived flames and smoke could be seen coming from the older house.

The blaze later appeared to extend through the roof.

Firefighters deployed two engines and a ladder truck, and the call was escalated to a fourth alarm.

The fire was quickly contained but crews remained on scene for several hours. An excavator was later brought in to assist firefighters.

Crews remained on the scene until late friday morning.

The intersection was closed to traffic during the response and remained shut down as of around 9 a.m.

It's unclear if the building was occupied. No injuries have been reported. Nearby homes did not appear to be damaged.
