Crash Shuts Down Trans-Canada Between Chase and Squilax

Updated: Aug 11

CHASE, B.C. - A serious crash brought traffic to a standstill on the Trans-Canada Highway late Sunday morning, closing the route in both directions between Chase and Squilax.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m., prompting a major emergency response. RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and local fire crews were on scene, and a section of the highway was cleared to create a landing zone for an air ambulance.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the crash may have been a head-on collision, with several people injured. The exact number and extent of injuries have not yet been confirmed.

The weekend has been particularly busy for emergency responders in the North Okanagan. Several serious collisions on Highway 97A sent multiple people to hospital, with one unconfirmed fatality reported.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and watch for updates from DriveBC regarding reopening times.
