Crash Shuts Down Highway 97A Near Mara Lake

UPDATE – Jan. 20, 2026 - The Highway 97A is no longer closed in both directions.


Single-lane alternating traffic is moving with traffic control over 1.5 km between Zettergreen Rd and Riverside Rd.


The crash downed a power pole resulting in wires across the highway.


BC Hydro estimates power was knocked out to 253 customers in the immediate area.


January 20 2026 - Traffic on Highway 97A was brought to a stop near Mara Lake just after noon today following a crash north of the Centex Gas station.


The incident involved a vehicle striking a power pole, which was knocked down, leaving wires across the roadway.

Emergency crews have blocked traffic in both directions while the scene is secured.


An unknown number of occupants were out of the vehicle and are reportedly being treated by BC Ambulance.


Traffic is being diverted around the crash site using Riverside Road. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes where possible.


RCMP BC Ambulance and Fire are on scene.
