August 5 2023 - A serious crash shut down Highway 6 just west of Lumby on Tuesday morning.
The collision involved a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck towing a trailer loaded with a 60-inch corrugated pipe — the kind commonly used to divert small creeks under roadways.
The pickup left the road and came to rest against a tree, while the passenger vehicle remained on the highway.
The impact scattered debris along more than 100 metres of roadway, creating hazardous conditions and forcing traffic to detour via Whitevale Road while the scene was cleared.
Several people were involved in the crash, but none of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
The collision occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m., when the two vehicles reportedly sideswiped each other while passing on a gentle curve.
Lumby and District Fire Department, RCMP, and BC Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
