"Y2K" Effect 2026"? Permanent Time Change Creates Digital Scheduler Headaches in B.C. and Alberta
October 31 2026 - Staying on Pacific Time may cause issues with your digital scheduler.
Some observers have loosely called the resulting calendar snags a “Y2K effect 2026,” though the comparison is limited.
Even when devices show the correct local time after updates, some previously scheduled meetings and recurring appointments can still appear an hour off.

This happens with events created under the old daylight-saving rules before software vendors updated their time-zone data.
Google Calendar has flagged many affected events and offers a “move one hour earlier” option on the web version.
Microsoft added new Windows time zones, Pacific Time (British Columbia) and Mountain Time (Alberta), and has told Outlook users to update their calendar settings and have organizers review recurring series.
Official guidance is consistent: install the latest operating-system and app updates, confirm automatic time-zone settings, and manually check important appointments after November 1.
Being aware and a review of calendars can prevent or solve most problems. One solution may be resending meetings to verify times and resend invitations if needed.
