330,000 BC Hydro customers were left without electricity after a windstorm swept through Southern British Columbia yesterday evening.

High winds and rain caused outages from Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast,

Vancouver and up the Fraser Valley as far as Hope.

As of noon Saturday 100,000 remain without power.

The latest information from BC Hydro as of noon today lists these outages:

- Lower Mainland North and the Sunshine Coast: 29,000 customers without power

- Lower Mainland South: 43,000 customers without power

- Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands: 18,000 customers without power

Most of the outages are due to drought-weakened trees and branches contacting powerlines

BC Hydro says more than 100 crews are in the field repairing the damage. There is so much work to be done Hydro warns people may be without electricity well into tomorrow.

If you see a downed power line stay at least 10 meters away. A DOWNED POWER LINE is an EMERGENCY and you should CALL 911 to REPORT IT.
