UPDATE: Potential Explosive Device Found in Vernon Vehicle: VIDEO

RCMP confirmed a suspicious device found inside a vehicle in Vernon on Tuesday contained explosive material.

Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP:

"An examination of the device confirmed the presence of explosive material and that it likely had the potential to cause serious injury if activated"


A 28-year-old Vernon man remains in custody until his next scheduled court appearance later this month



Original story: Police are currently investigating a potential explosive device found in a vehicle in Vernon earlier today.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12th, 2023, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of an unconscious man behind the wheel of a vehicle in the parking lot of a business on 43rd Avenue.

The man, already known to the police, was arrested without incident for violating multiple conditions. During the arrest, an officer discovered a suspected explosive device inside the vehicle.


Police secured the area and the RCMP's Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) has been called.


Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, stated,

"Frontline officers have established a safety cordon, and we're asking the public to avoid the area. Our EDU Team is expected to arrive later today, and the area will remain closed until they examine and safely deal with the item."
