The bottom line, they know what they need and how to get it.
Despite all that, the big players can't be everywhere, all the time.
That's where the "Citizen Journalist" comes in. Nowadays almost everybody is equipped with a high quality camera built into their smartphone.
Anybody with a smartphone has the ability to record and even transmit live images of events as they happen.
