March 15 2026 - A semi driver is lucky to be alive after a large boulder struck the truck along the Trans-Canada Highway east of Sicamous late Friday night (March 13 2026).
The truck was travelling eastbound between Sicamous and Revelstoke when the falling rock smashed into the cab, crushing the passenger side and forcing the vehicle into a rock face along the highway.
Despite the severity of the impact, the driver reportedly suffered only very minor injuries.
The incident happened late Friday evening, on Friday the 13th, a date often associated with bad luck, but in this case the outcome could have been far worse.
The stretch of highway where the crash occurred underwent extensive rock scaling work last spring and summer, and sections of the mountainside are covered with steel mesh designed to catch falling debris before it reaches the roadway.
Even with those mitigation measures in place, falling rocks remain an ongoing hazard along the mountainous corridor between Sicamous and Revelstoke.
