August 26,2024: A swimming advisory is in effect at Kalamalka Beach due to elevated bacteria levels in the water, exceeding the Guidelines for Canadian Recreational Water Quality. Recent hot weather and strong winds have contributed to the bacteria and algae presence near the beach.
The District of Coldstream is working with Interior Health to monitor the water, and the advisory will be lifted once bacteria levels return to safe levels.
Safety Tips From The District Of Coldstream:
Avoid swallowing lake water.
Don't swim with open cuts or wounds.
Avoid swimming for 24 hours after heavy rain.
Stay out of the water if you have digestive issues.
Wash hands before handling food.
