Coldstream is asking for input on priorities and vision for 2050. The District of Coldstream is updating its Official Community Plan (OCP) and it is looking for public input on the community's future.
The OCP will outline the vision and policies needed to guide development to 2050.
What is an Official Community Plan (OCP)?
An OCP is a long-term planning document that directs community growth and development. It influences various aspects of life, including:

Survey Questions:
Values: What do you value most about Coldstream? Is it access to recreation, a small town feel, nature and wilderness, ability to walk and bike around the community, sense of community, parks, beaches, green spaces, or agricultural roots.
Priorities: Which areas should be prioritized over the next 25 years? Options include managing growth and development, utility servicing and infrastructure, active transportation, community and recreation facilities, parks, recreation and trails, economic diversification, housing options and affordability, environmental protection and conservation, climate change adaptation, emergency preparedness, reconciliation with First Nations, arts and culture, social initiatives, attracting visitors and tourism, and sustainable municipal asset management.
Importance of Issues: Have your say on local issues such as preserving agricultural land, developing a commercial core, keeping tax rates low, reducing conflicts between agriculture and housing, improving roads and infrastructure, providing additional parkland, protecting sensitive areas, and developing recreation facilities.
Environment and Climate: The survey includes questions about the importance of protecting and conserving natural spaces, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, investing in climate adaptation measures, protecting drinking water sources, safeguarding against wildfires and flooding, protecting fish habitats, reducing solid waste, and promoting environmental education.
Social Development: Where are the communities priorities when it comes to safety and crime prevention, access to healthcare, fresh food, childcare services, preserving scenic views, activities for seniors, support for people in poverty, accessibility for people with disabilities, access to education, arts and culture, and amenities for children and youth.
Transportation: What is most important for transportation and mobility in Coldstream in 2050? Consider accessibility, infrastructure supporting active transportation, connectivity between neighborhoods, well-maintained infrastructure, and transit services.
Housing: What forms of housing would you like to see more of? Options include single-family homes, seniors’ housing, apartments/condos, townhouses, rental housing, duplexes/triplexes/fourplexes, and secondary suites.
Economic Development: Focus areas for enhancing economic development might include attracting new businesses, supporting local businesses, enhancing tourism, increasing affordable housing, creating more jobs, and providing opportunities for youth.
Types of Businesses: What types of businesses would you like to see in Coldstream? Examples include adventure/recreation, hospitality, restaurants, building/construction, arts and culture, childcare/youth activities, health services, retail shops, home-based businesses, farmers markets, and professional or personal services.
Recreation and Parks: As Coldstream grows, what should be prioritized in terms of recreation and parks? Consider maintaining existing facilities, increasing opportunities for all ages, expanding non-motorized trails, enhancing amenities, and improving access to parks.
Types of Parks/Facilities: What types of parks or recreational facilities would you like to see? Options include indoor recreation centers, swimming pools, sports fields, community gardens, neighborhood parks, sport courts, skate parks, splash pads, and playgrounds.
Arts and Culture Vision: What is your vision for the future of arts and culture in Coldstream? Examples might include community arts programming, increased diversity in offerings, cultural events, support for local artists, preservation of heritage, and public art.
Arts and Cultural Facilities: What types of arts and cultural facilities or programs would you like to see more of? Consider outdoor event spaces, performance spaces, galleries, community arts centers, music concerts, art exhibitions, cultural festivals, and workshops.
