Coldstream Fire Crews Respond to Unusual Incident
Coldstream, BC - August 18, 2024 - Coldstream Fire Hall responded to a rather unusual emergency call just before 1 PM on Sunday. A 5-year-old child, enjoying a day at Coldstream’s popular Kal Beach with family, found themselves in a tricky situation after getting their head stuck in a portable child’s toilet.
The incident involved a small, blue, child-sized porta potty.
Details on how or why the child’s head became trapped are unclear, but neither the child nor the supervising adults were able to remove the child's head from the device.
The good news is that the situation had a happy ending.
After a quick search of a very busy Kal Beach, crews from Vernon Fire Hall located the family near the pullout area at the east end of the beach.
Once the fire crews connected with the child and the concerned parents, it didn’t take long to free the youngster’s head from the small toilet. No injuries were reported, and the child appeared to be unharmed after the incident.
This unusual situation serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of emergency services, where even a sunny day at the beach can take a sudden turn. Fortunately, this story ends with a relieved family and a quick resolution by Coldstream’s fire crews.
