Vernon Man Charged With Arson

Updated: Oct 23

A 34-year-old Vernon man has been arrested and charged with arson.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., Thursday, July 13th, 2023 Vernon RCMP police received a report that several fires had been set outside businesses in the 3400 block of 30th Avenue in downtown Vernon.

Two of the fires were discovered and extinguished by an employee from one of the nearby businesses.

At about 4:45 that morning, the employee was just arriving at their place of work when they spotted "a pile of smoldering debris along the side of the building".

No sooner had that fire been put out than another small fire was seen burning across the street. That fire was also extinguished by the employee.

Video surveillance from the area was collected by investigators. The RCMP alleges some of the video collected shows their suspect lighting fires at three separate locations.

A 34-year-old Vernon man has been charged with three counts of arson. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
