Permit Granted for Husband Road Project After Summer Delays
2024-09-05: The District of Coldstream has received a "Site Alteration Permit" from the Provincial Archaeology Branch, allowing work on Husband Road to proceed after a summer-long delay.
Construction is set to resume on September 10, 2024, with Nixon Earthworks returning to the site.
Husband Road, closed for much of the summer, limited access to the Kal Beach parking lot and local residents lot to one access direction.
The location required the "Site Alteration Permit" because the road runs through an area likely used by Indigenous peoples in the past promting a need for caution.
Although no direct archaeological evidence has been reported, the permit was issued to ensure compliance with provincial heritage protection protocols.
Husband Road is expected to reopen to alternating traffic by September 16, 2024.
Until then, drivers can access Kal Beach via Middleton Way and Highway 6. The District of Coldstream thanks the public for their patience.
