Update: Arrest Made in Lumby Homicide Case Lumby, Vernon North Okanagan, Major Crimes Unit
2024-05-31 17:30 PDT: On April 13, 2024, the disappearance of Tatjana Stefanski was reported in Lumby, BC.
The following day, April 14, 2024, Tatjana Stefanski's body was discovered in a rural area, leading to the arrest of a suspect allegedly linked to her death. The individual was released from police custody under certain conditions.
Since then, the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit has diligently collected pertinent evidence, resulting in the submission of materials to Crown Counsel for approval of murder charges.
As of May 31, 2024, Vitali Stefanski, Tatjana Stefanski's ex-husband, has been charged with Second-Degree Murder allegedly in connection with her death.
Staff Sergeant Jason Smart, NCO i/c BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit, commended the unwavering dedication of the SED MCU and Vernon RCMP Detachment in overcoming the various hurdles encountered during this investigation, leading to the recent charges against Mr. Stefanski.
Stefanski has been apprehended and is currently in custody awaiting his court appearance.
