The Hullcar Mountain wildfire in the North Okanagan region of British Columbia has grown to approximately 700 hectares as of early August 8, 2024. The fire remains out of control and is classified as a wildfire of note.
Over the last 24 hours, it has shown minimal growth, with most activity observed on the northwest flank.
Firefighters are actively using both ground and aerial resources to combat the blaze, focusing on direct attack methods and establishing containment lines.
Evacuation orders and alerts are still in effect.
In the Township of Spallumcheen, 58 properties have been placed under evacuation orders, with an additional 60 properties on evacuation alert.
Specific addresses affected on Hullcar Road include properties numbered from 4194 to 5004, and additional properties on Parkinson Road, Deep Creek Road, Todd Place, and Frederick Road.
In the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), 17 properties are under evacuation orders, primarily along Salmon River Road and Deep Creek Road. Around 75 properties in these areas are also on evacuation alert.
The fire was initially caused by lightning and was first detected the evening of August 4, 2024
